De epifoor is een stijlmiddel, waarbij opeenvolgende zinnen met hetzelfde woord of met dezelfde woorden eindigen. Een epifoor is dus het omgekeerde van de anafoor, waarbij opeenvolgende zinnen met dezelfde woorden beginnen. Door opeenvolgende zinnen op dezelfde wijze te eindigen, ontstaat een dramatisch effect. Dit is meteen de reden om een epifoor in één speech niet te vaak gebruikt moet worden. Het wordt dan al snel ‘over de top’. Door de epifoor wordt een ritme gecreëerd, waardoor de tekst lekkerder in het gehoor ligt en (daardoor) makkelijker te onthouden is.
Een epifoor kan grammaticaal steeds net iets anders worden geformuleerd zonder dat het effect verloren gaat. Een mooi voorbeeld hiervan is de zesvoudige epifoor in een speech van de Australische journalist Stan Grant:
“Of course racism is killing the Australian Dream. It is self evident that it’s killing the Australian dream. But we are better than that. The people who stood up and supported Adam Goodes and said, “No more,” they are better than that. The people who marched across the bridge for reconciliation, they are better than that. The people who supported Kevin Rudd when he said sorry to the Stolen Generations, they are better than that. My children and their non-Indigenous friends are better than that. My wife who is not Indigenous is better than that.”
Gebruik in (rap)muziek
Het ritme is de reden dat de epifoor in rapmuziek veel gebruikt wordt, waarin de woorden direct vóór de epifoor rijmen.

De kracht van de epifoor was al in de oudheid bekend. Zo zijn in de bijbel meerdere voorbeelden te vinden:
Toen ik nog een kind was sprak ik als een kind, dacht ik als een kind, redeneerde ik als een kind. (1 Korintiërs 13, vers 11)
Een variant van de epifoor werd in de Middeleeuwen erg populair als poëzie. In het stockvers eindigde elke alinea met dezelfde zin, de sto(c)k. Dit was de belangrijkste gedachte of boodschap van het gedicht. Een andere variant was het rondeel, een gedicht van 8 regels waarin de 1e, 4e en 7e zin gelijk zijn en ook de 2e en de 8e.
